Are You Satisfied in Serving?
Every homeowner knows that a check of your house foundation is essential for locating problems early and keeping your dwelling place secure. The same is true with our spiritual foundations, that a regular check-up of healthy practices helps locate problems and keeps us secure.
This Sunday's message about Serving our Spouse was a good check-up of our attitude and practices of serving one another. While the message addressed serving your spouse, a servant's heart and actions applies to any relationship.
Matthew 20:26-28 (The Passion Translation) Jesus tells us "But this is not your calling. You will lead by a completely different model. The greatest one among you will live as the one who is called to serve others, because the greatest honor and authority is reserved for the one with the heart of a servant. For even the Son of Man did not come expecting to be served but to serve and give His life in exchange for the Salvation of Many:.
Let's break down the word SERVE and the idea of serving:
S- Serve what others need regardless of what you need, want or understand.
E - Enjoy serving others and do it with a joyful attitude.
R - Reject scorekeeping and do what you do with a spirit of grace and truth.
V - Vigilantly protect relationships (especially your marriage) and keep priorities of spouse,
children, work and friends in their correct order.
E - Expect to be blessed and don't give up- serve others by faith!
Here are some questions to explore on your own or with others:
How do you keep a joyful attitude when serving others, especially if they are not appreciative or grateful?
Do you have an example of rejecting scorekeeping and serving with grace and the situation turned out well?
How do you cultivate the heart of a servant?
Listen again to Sunday's message and add your thoughts below!
